Anyone who has toddlers knows that they can be busy. They have a lot of energy and curiosity that needs to be explored during the day.
During this time of social distancing, it has been important to come up with some creative ways to keep the kids entertained while staying at home.
Here are some of our favourites:

Bubbles
As I mentioned in my post about what has been getting me through quarantine, our bubble machine has been one of our best investments for entertaining the kids indoors.
The kids love running around chasing the bubbles and trying to pop them which provides them with fun and movement. It's also super easy cleanup which is always a favourite of mine.
Car Wash
If there’s one thing you should know about me is that I hate getting messy. That is challenging to avoid when you have toddlers.
To meet their sensory needs, I’ve come up with some go-to sensory activities that are easy cleanup. One of my favourites is a car wash activity.

You need two bins, some toy cars, some soap and water, an option toothbrush and something to ‘mess’ up the cars. We use either a homemade cornstarch paint or some dirt from outside as our mess maker. The kids can paint on the cars and then wash them up in the bin of soapy water.
We like to put some trucks into one of the bins and toss in the trucks and get them covered and then use a toothbrush to clean them in the clean soapy water bin. This helps not only with sensory but fine motor skills as well.

This activity can be done inside but I prefer to do it outside on a nice day.
Bath Paints
Much like the mess and wash car activity, bath paints can be a lot of fun. It allows the kids to unleash their inner artist and have fun while still being a super easy cleanup.
You can make your own bath paints or you can find bath paint and crayons online.
Scavenger Hunt
Depending on the area where you live, you can set up a scavenger hunt in your backyard, inside your house or on a walk around your neighbourhood.
In my neighbourhood, we’ve had theme weeks where you can draw a picture or draw on the window (for example: our Easter week theme was Easter eggs). Then you go for a walk (or drive) and see how many you can spot.
Window Colouring
In our neighbourhood we’ve had weekly scavenger hunts. These window markers have come in handy for participating in the different themes of the scavenger hunts.
They’ve also been fun for just letting the kids draw on the windows and easy clean up with water and a microfibre cloth.

This is a classic. Who doesn’t like a good fort? Using blankets, pillows and some furniture, you can construct a cozy nest. One of our easiest ways to build a fort is to throw a bedsheet over the kitchen table a play underneath.
Or if you are wanting to build a fort without using furniture, I recommend getting this awesome fort maker kit.
Homemade Playdoh
For another fun tactile experience, I recommend homemade playdoh. The reason I like homemade is I have one toddler who likes to put everything in his mouth.
Making my playdoh from scratch, I can control what ingredients go into it assuring that it’s safe for digesting should my little one stick it in his mouth.
